CCI & Associates were engaged to investigate a situation in which a number of allegations, of both a disciplinary nature and poor performance nature, were made against an employee by their line managers. The situation was further complicated by the presence of several counter allegations made by the employee against their line managers. The organisation was very keen to act appropriately and fairly to all concerned parties. The remit included identifying if any disciplinary matters had occurred, if disciplinary action was required, and finally what lessons could be learnt from the experience.
One of the first steps was to examine the policies of the organisation to establish organisational standards and values. The employee was then interviewed on a number of occasions, and a full detailed written account was obtained from them detailing issues going back over six years. The account itemised their concerns and also answered the allegations against them.
Following this, CCI & Associates developed an investigation plan, which was agreed with the organisation, setting out exactly who would be seen during the course of the investigation. All identified staff, including workplace colleagues of the same grade, supervisors, line and other managers, were then interviewed and written accounts covering both the allegations and counter allegations obtained from each .
Consideration of all the facts was then made against the allegations/ counter allegations to establish if any disciplinary action was required. Recommendations were made as to further action and a comprehensive list of ‘Lessons to be Learned’ were provided.
